| EXPRESSIVE FORMS The bold colors, geometric shapes and painted 22-carat details of Emily Adams 14-piece line of contemporary furniture, which debuted at Interior Designs Inc. October 2, are more than randomly chosen elements of design. An interior designer for 22 years, Adams believes that we surround ourselves with objects that impart a sense of well being to our lives. And her aesthetic is based as much on symbols of spiritualism as it is on period styles of the 15th to the 19th centuries. The neo-classic triangular shapes on some of the pieces, for example, are partly inspired by Empire furnishings. But they are also an homage to the pyramidal structures of ancient cultures. Adams herself describes the collection as somewhat ecclesicstical in flavor. Yet its shapes and motifs are stylized to fit a contemporary viewpoint so effectively that each of the pieces works in a variety of environments. Gambit, HOME SMART November 1993 |
