RELIGIOUS OBJECTS AND A FRESH SENSE OF STYLE ACCENT DESIGNER EMILY ADAMS' LOWER
PONTALBA APARTMENT

As a backdrop for her favorite things, Emily painted the walls and ceiling of her bedroom a "passion red." "It's my favorite
color and I have always used it in my bedroom for the past 19 years," she says.

The color serves as the perfect envelope for the room that is decorated with religious objects, including a pair of altars on
either side of the head of her bed. Bedside tables are butler's trays painted forest green. Windows are coverless: "If I need
privacy, I just pull the outside shutters," she says.

A collection of Madonnas and other religious collectibles grace the fireplace in the bedroom. "People always want to know
why I collect religious objects," she offers. "I'm inspired by my Madonnas; I love the unusual. I enjoy looking in off-beat
stores. And, of course, everything has a story."

Emily has made her mark as a successful interior designer with her commissions to do many homes, apartments and office
buildings both locally and nationally. It's her fresh sense of style that has made her popular. "I am always challenged to
create a unique look," she explains. "For example, most furniture is placed in a predictable way, while I prefer to position
things in an asymmetrical manner."
